Air Abrasion

If you need a filling but want to avoid the needles and drills usually involved with the procedure, air abrasion could be your best option. A fairly new technology, air abrasion provides a more conservative alternative to the traditional tools used in treating certain small cavities. While cleaning and preparing teeth, it also allows us to preserve more of your natural tooth structure.

Unlike the traditional drills, which produce vibration and heat, air abrasion uses a high-pressure stream of tiny aluminum oxide particles. The particles bounce off the surface of the tooth, eliminating decay, and preparing the tooth for a filling. Air abrasion takes about a minute or so per tooth and usually requires little or no anesthetic, making it a great choice for children and adults.
